Hi, I am Franziska Reimann. I am phd student and a staff member at university of Wuppertal, Ger-many. I got to know the VET & Culture Network in June 2017 during my Master studies as part of an Erasmus exchange between the universities of Tampere and Wuppertal. By participating in the workshop “Disciplinary Struggles in the History of Education”, I made first contacts and even then, I found the network to be a place of intensive exchange and mutual support and appreciation. Moreover, I could broaden my perspectives beyond national borders. Especially the international, open and flexible format of the meetings as well as the variety and breadth of the topics discussed were stimulating and instructive for me.
During the pandemic, the network is taking full advantage of the technical possibilities to stay in touch. The online workshop “Closeness and distance(s) in pedagogical encounters” in early March 2021 made it possible to break up the distance caused by the spatial separation and to create intel-lectual closeness by controversial discussions. I am already excited about the next meetings and look forward to ‘real’ face-to-face encounters. By the way, it would be nice to be connected also in a more informal way with especially those who are in the stage of writing a doctoral thesis, as I am. In my PhD thesis I work on the interrelation between technology and “Bildung” (edification) and I would love to share with others topics, experiences, struggles, and successes related to the PhD thesis process. If anyone is interested in that too, we could start a “Newcomers Group” within VET&Culture Network. Comments on this idea are welcome. I am looking forward to being better connected.

    Hello to all of you,
I am also currently writing my doctoral thesis and I definitely support the idea of further networking within the VET&Culture group. Maybe there are others, who are just starting their PhD thesis, are in the middle of it or are close to finishing it. I can well imagine that in such a newcomer group one could not only establish new contacts, but also work together on (especially international) publications in addition to mutual assistance in case of concrete problems. If there are more interested newcomers and junior-researchers, Franziska and I could organize a first informal meeting via Zoom in which we could decide further steps together.
Just leave your comments on this platform:-)

I share your wishes for more connection and exchange, Franziska and I like your idea about the international joint publications Akukuk. 🙂
Happy to hear about the first zoom-call!
